Performance Classes

The Cindy Yang Dance Academy of Canada offers a variety of youth classes for students ranging from 3-20+ to meet the needs at different levels of dance

Beginner Class

Beginner Class is suitable for children of ages 3-5 years old. By combining the basic movements and creative songs, children are able to develop interest in dance and unique personalities in performing arts. Through this class, students are introduced to fundamental concepts of artistic movement, musical interpretation, self-discipline, and expression.

Junior Division

Junior Division encompasses students from CDGES Grades 1-6 who develop skills in basic flexibility practices, footwork, hand movements, jumps and turns. Additionally, students train in musical interpretation and creativity that imitate different scenarios and are introduced to the main characteristics of various Chinese ethnic minorities (Han, Dai, Tibetan etc.). At the performance level, students are able to complete full choreographies that combine dance expression, techniques and skills in various children’s dances, ethnic minority dances, and lyrical dances. Classes are offered at both Richmond and Burnaby locations.

Intermediate Division

Intermediate Division is offered to students in CGDES 7-9 who have matured in basic techniques and skills of Chinese ethnic, classical, and lyrical dance to be incorporated into choreographies. At this level, students will build experience mastering distinct emotional, musical, and artistic expression when encountering different contexts in dance. Students are exposed to various performance experiences in different stages, festivals, and competitions throughout the year. Classes are offered at both Richmond and Burnaby locations. 

Senior Division

Senior Division is directed for students at the level of CDGES 10-13 and involves intensive training and guidance to nurture and refine the abilities of highly mature dancers. Students are encouraged to actively engage in training across various disciplines of dance including classical Shenyun combinations, Chinese ethnic minority and folk dances, and lyrical dances.

Advanced Class

Advanced Class is offered to students who have completed the CDGES curriculum and/or reached a professional level of dance. Students continue to thrive and refine their skills through a comprehensive curriculum in class as well as numerous performance and competition opportunities locally and internationally. In this class, students can apply their matured dance techniques to different original choreographies ranging from Chinese ethnic minority dances to folk dance, contemporary dances, and dance dramas.
